A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has defended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike amid growing disagreement between the minister and some APC governors ahead of the 2027 elections.
Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, described Wike as an “asset” to the APC, despite Wike remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Jibrin said Wike had made political sacrifices through his support for President Bola Tinubu.
He specifically pointed to Wike’s role in supporting Tinubu and the political changes that took place in Rivers State.
Jibrin argued that APC members had benefited directly or indirectly from Wike’s support for the President and urged APC governors to regard Wike as an ally rather than treating him as an opponent.
The comments come against the background of the disagreement between Wike and some APC governors over his political activities.
Wike has repeatedly said that he supports Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027. At the same time, he has maintained that his support for the President does not require him to support APC candidates in every state and legislative contest.
His position has become particularly controversial because of his Rainbow Coalition, which brings together politicians from different political parties who support Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
Jibrin said the disagreement between Wike and the APC governors should be managed because both sides share a common position regarding Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid.
The lawmaker also expressed his own expectation regarding the 2027 presidential election, saying he believed Tinubu could secure at least 65 percent of the votes. That figure is Jibrin’s political prediction, not an established election result or independent forecast.
The dispute involving Wike and APC governors remains part of the wider political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 elections, with questions surrounding alliances, party loyalty and the relationship between presidential and state-level political interests.
