Russian Missile Attacks Kill at Least Four in Kyiv as Ukraine War Intensifies

Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile attack on Kyiv, killing at least four people and injuring dozens, including children, as the war with Ukraine continues despite renewed diplomatic efforts to restart peace negotiations.

According to the Dikkasmedia, the strikes hit residential neighbourhoods, energy infrastructure and transport facilities in the Ukrainian capital. Emergency workers were deployed to affected areas to search damaged buildings, assist the injured and assess the extent of the destruction.

The attack has renewed concerns about the safety of civilians as Ukraine approaches another winter during which damage to electricity and heating infrastructure could leave households vulnerable to freezing temperatures. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly warned that attacks on energy facilities threaten essential services and complicate preparations for the colder months.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the continuing Russian attacks and called for stronger international support, particularly additional air-defence equipment. Ukraine has relied on Western military assistance to intercept incoming missiles and drones, but officials say protecting cities and critical infrastructure remains a major challenge.

Meanwhile, Russia claimed that its air defences intercepted more than 800 Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow and other locations. The Russian figures have not been independently verified, and reports indicated that injuries from the drone incidents were comparatively limited.

The escalation comes as diplomatic efforts continue. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently met US special envoy Steve Witkoff in St Petersburg, where discussions reportedly included proposals for restarting negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States. The Kremlin has indicated a willingness to consider renewed talks, although major disagreements over the terms of a settlement remain unresolved.

Ukraine continues to seek security guarantees and the restoration of its territorial integrity, while Moscow maintains demands that Kyiv has rejected. These opposing positions have made it difficult to establish a lasting framework for peace.

The latest strikes demonstrate the gap between diplomatic discussions and conditions on the battlefield. For civilians, the immediate concerns remain survival, access to electricity and heating, and protection from further attacks as international efforts to end the conflict continue.
