‘Agbara Nla: The Return’ Hits ₦354.5 Million at Nigerian Box Office

Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla: The Return has grossed ₦354.5 million at the Nigerian box office, becoming the highest-grossing film released in October and the third-highest-grossing Nollywood title of 2026, according to a report published on Tuesday, October 20.

The film’s distributor, Nile Entertainment, announced the milestone in a social media post, thanking Nigerian audiences for supporting the production.

The latest earnings represent a significant increase from the ₦307.2 million recorded by October 16, when the movie ranked fourth among Nollywood’s highest-grossing films of the year.

Released in cinemas on October 1, Agbara Nla: The Return is a modern remake of the 1993 Christian film created by veteran filmmaker Mike Bamiloye. The original production became a notable title in Nigeria’s Christian film industry, attracting audiences through its themes of faith, spiritual warfare and the struggle between good and evil.

The new version was directed by Mike Bamiloye’s sons, Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua “Jay Mikee” Mike-Bamiloye. Their father also reprises his role as Isawuru, the powerful herbalist central to the story.

The film recorded approximately ₦71.4 million during its preview screenings and generated another ₦99.2 million during its opening weekend, bringing its initial combined earnings to about ₦170.6 million.

Its performance has challenged the long-standing industry trend of concentrating major Nigerian film releases around December, when festive-season activities often boost cinema attendance.

By attracting audiences outside that traditional period, the production has demonstrated the commercial potential of faith-based storytelling in Nigeria’s cinema market.

The film’s success also highlights the continued appeal of established Nigerian stories when reintroduced to new generations through modern filmmaking and theatrical distribution.

With its earnings continuing to grow, Agbara Nla: The Return has secured a place among the year’s leading Nollywood releases. The film remains in cinemas nationwide, according to its distributor.
