Faith Akinola Unveils New Stage Play, ‘The Letter’

Nigerian writer and producer Faith Akinola is set to stage her latest theatrical production, The Letter, on September 26, 2026, under the auspices of Mustard Tree Productions.

The new stage play explores themes including identity, rejection, societal pressure, emotional healing and restoration. The story centres on a young bride whose expectations surrounding one of the most significant moments of her life are unexpectedly disrupted.

Set against a backdrop of celebration and family anticipation, The Letter follows the protagonist as she navigates disappointment, cultural expectations, unsolicited advice and public scrutiny. The production examines how an individual can respond when circumstances take an unexpected turn.

Speaking about the play, Akinola explained that the production is designed to explore what happens when reality differs sharply from the future someone has imagined.

At the centre of the story is the question of whether disappointment should determine how people view themselves and their future. The production ultimately follows its central character through a journey of rediscovering identity, hope and emotional wholeness.

The play combines traditional drama with music and symbolic staging to tell its story. Through the combination of these elements, the production takes audiences through the protagonist’s personal struggle and eventual journey towards restoration.

The Letter features a cast that includes veteran actress Tina Mba, Kate Henshaw, Oluchi Odi and Mich Straw, alongside other performers. The production is being presented by Mustard Tree Productions, a company founded by Akinola that focuses on developing stories and entertainment experiences across theatre, film and live productions.

The project is supported by Providus Unity and brings together theatre, music and storytelling to examine experiences surrounding rejection, resilience and restoration.

With its focus on emotional experiences and social expectations, The Letter is positioned as a stage production that encourages audiences to reflect on how people respond when carefully imagined plans suddenly change.

The September 26 staging will give theatre audiences an opportunity to experience Akinola’s latest work and its exploration of identity, disappointment and the process of finding hope after unexpected setbacks.
